Honda Amaze is offered in two engine options. Time and tested 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and all-new segment redefining 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel. 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine churn out 88 PS of power and 109 NM torque. This is same engine which is doing duty on Brio. Mated to this engine is an option of 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmissions. AT and MT are again same featured on Brio with same gear ratios. Our test car was shod with 5-speed manual gearbox. Power lies in mid-range and top end of rev band with low end being average. Though, overtaking may require you to work down a few gears. Engine refinement is fantastic as expected from Honda who has already established itself as master of petrol engines. Honda Amaze MT and AT deliver mileage rate of 18 km/l and 15.5 km/l respectively, according to the norms of ARAI.


While petrol engine is a gem, all eyes are keenly focused on diesel engine and why not! It is first time Honda is getting a diesel engine to India which prefers diesel as fuel of choice. All-new 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine may have taken some time, but it is here and here to stay. It is only Europe and India where demand for diesel engines are high. Honda Motors had manufactured 2.2 i-CTDI diesel engine for European Accord in 2003. This engine evolved into 2.2 i-DTEC in 2008 and was featured in European CR-V. As evolutionary process went on, it made way for 1.6 i-DTEC. Indian spec 1.5 i-DTEC has been manufactured keeping European spec 1.6 i-DTEC as base. Indian regulations offer excise benefit to sub 1.5-litre diesel engines and it was a vital aspect in engine development.

1.5-litre, DOHC, i-DTEC diesel engine is nothing short of an engineering wonder. This all-aluminium engine is lightest diesel engine in its segment and features a high strength and lightweight crankshaft. This engine generates 100 PS of power at 3600 RPM and 200 NM torque at 1750 RPM. Power delivery is linear with almost no turbo lag. This engine delivers great performance at all ends of rev band with strongest point being its mid-range. Revving up to 4500 RPM, this diesel engine comes coupled to an all-new 5-speed manual gearbox. MT is not only lightweight but is also compact in size and offers class leading transmission efficiency. Gear shifts are slick and ratios are well matched for both city and highway conditions. You may need to go down a gear for low speed overtaking, but once you are on highway, just nail throttle and you are through. In gear acceleration is pretty good and Honda Amaze will pull out cleanly in third gear from speeds as low as 20 km/hr. Top speed is around 170 km/hr. An important point of note is clutch which is extremely light contributing to less fatigue over long drives.

Honda Amaze Looks and style

Honda Amaze is based on Brio but unlike other boot-on-hatch jobs, it has designed from ground up to be a proper sedan with small size. It is larger than its hatchback sibling little wider and a little taller at back side to increase shoulder and head room. Length is different, though; it will be just under 4-metre to avail excise benefits of being a small car. Wheelbase of Honda Amaze is 62mm longer at 2407mm. 

Honda Amaze carries unconventional styling – just like Brio. Unlike most Honda cars the design is not subtle. Consumers will either love it or absolutely hate it. But, we have a feeling that many will like looks of this entry-level sedan. On front side, Honda Amaze has got a new grille to differentiate it from hatchback sibling but shares other features like headlights and bumpers. Sides and rear have changed too for certain reasons. Rear side now has quite useable boot of around 420 litres which is considerably higher than chief competitor Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire. Experts found during road test that Honda Amaze can hold a similar amount of carge as Dzire but is not well-designed and this means that users would have to do a little ‘moving the blocks’ to fit in larger pieces of luggage. There is a large strip of chrome running the length of boot door and this has given car a classy look.

Honda Amaze Interiors

Cabin of Honda Amaze has a strong resemblance to Brio since both Amaze and Brio share loads of components. Sharing is not only cost effective but also crucial to the pricing of Honda Amaze. Dashboard is exactly same 2-tone with same color theme as Brio. Interior quality, fit & finish is typical Honda like. Front seats of Honda Amaze have integrated head rest and are supportive with spacious legroom. Driver’s seat boasts height adjustment feature and can be adjusted by up to 50 mm, 20 mm more than Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

Rear seats of Honda car offer plenty of legroom thanks to a larger wheelbase. Rear seats are comfortable and provide perfect support. To provide maximum comfort to passengers, cushion thickness has been increased by 96 mm which is again better than Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire by 11 mm. Under thigh support is strictly average for both front and rear seats. Ingress and egress is comfortable too. Hi-tech Honda Amaze offers best in class legroom and knee room. Honda Motors has managed to extract maximum interior space thanks to smaller engine. This also helps for larger boot.

Audio system of Honda Amaze is taken out of Brio and offers decent sound quality with option of USB/Aux. This system is iPod compatible and steering mounted controls ensure that you can change track without taking eyes off the road. AC is quite impressive that cools cabin quickly. It cools cabin so efficiently that 40 degree Goa sun was a piece of cake for Amaze. Honda Motors has introduced a heat absorbing front windshield which acts as a barrier and transmits less heat inside cabin as compared to a regular windshield. Result is a 6 degree less temperature inside cabin which is measured when car is out in sun for 20 minutes this helps AC cool off faster and is another segment first feature from Honda. However, Honda Motors has not offered climate control on any variant. There are adequate storage areas both at front and back. Console between front seats can stack up odds and ends while 1-litre bottles can find home in door pockets. Unlike Brio, Honda has fitted Amaze with rear defogger.

Honda Amaze is designed as a family car and boot space is crucial in this regard. Boot space is class leading and measures 400-litres which is much more than any car in given segment. There is enough room in boot for two medium and two small-size bags and loading bay is not too high either, making it easy to pack luggage.

Honda Amaze Exterior

Based on user reviews, Honda Motors focused on manufacturing a compact car. Amaze has been made particularly for India, as demand for compact sedans is quite good. On the front, you will see a double chrome grille as against single one on Brio. While Honda Brio has two tone black and body colored bumper, Amaze supports a completely body colored front bumper. Headlamps are same as Brio. Honda Amaze has been made carefully by maintaining proportions between engine bay, cabin and boot. Side profile depicts sharp character of Amaze. This car gets different alloy wheels for petrol and diesel variants. Petrol option gets 10 spoke alloy wheels while diesel version gets a 5 main and 5-sub spokes. Again a first, car will come with electrically foldable and adjustable rear view mirrors. Honda Amaze is about 380 mm longer overall compared to Brio. It is just shy of 4-metre mark at 3,990 mm. Wheelbase is also large by 60 mm to 2,405 mm which provides more space inside and in boot. It also gets new heat-absorbing front windscreen for improved comfort inside the car.

Also, chrome strip which spans along width of boot lid and enhances appeal is now being added to boot lid. Rear side gets a facelift by extended rear license plate garnish line and overhangs around it.

Honda Amaze Safety

As mentioned above, handling of Honda Amaze is expected to be of top quality. Besides, controlling of this Honda product will also not disappoint. According to fresh reports, car will be equipped with strong brake system comprising of ventilated disc brakes on front and drum brakes on rear wheels. Additionally, car will further come with anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution system and brake assist. To protect occupants, Honda Amaze would feature dual SRS airbags for driver and front co-passenger, central locking system, seat belts with pre-tensioners for all passengers, child safety locks and list is quite long.

Honda Amaze, as you know, will feature Honda’s first ever diesel engine in India, a 1.5-litre DOHC i-DTEC motor, producing 98.6 PS@3600 rpm and 20.4 kgm@1750 rpm. Diesel is an all-alloy unit and since these are intrinsically noisier than cast-iron engines. You will have unusual experience of hearing a diesel clatter inside car’s cabin. In other aspects, i-DTEC engine is a gem – it pulls cleanly in almost any part of rev range, especially lower down, and you would not find yourself having to frequently change gear. There are no sudden spurts in powerband and no turbo lag to speak of either, so driving Honda diesel is a cool experience both in city and out on highway. Honda Motors claims, diesel Amaze will be most fuel efficient car in India. This nicely-manufactured car from Honda should be good for 12-14 kpl in city and close to 20 kpl out on highways, in real-world driving. Gearbox of Honda Amaze is slick and a joy to use, keeping up with the requirements of engine very well.

Honda Amaze also gets a petrol version, same 1.2-litre unit that you see in Brio, with option of an automatic transmission as well. Putting out 86.8 PS@6000 rpm and 11.1 kgm@4500 rpm, petrol variant of Honda Amaze is also a treat to drive – it manages to compensate quite well for Amazes’ extra weight over hatchback. Those who want typically refined, quiet Honda experience will be impressed with this version, which feature different equipment.

Honda Amaze Fuel Economy

Honda Amaze uses a 1.5 litre 4 cylinder iDTEC EarthDreams engine. This 1.5 litre engine produces peak power of 100 PS and develops a peak torque of 200Nm. This makes Honda sedan more powerful than diesel variant of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

Diesel variant of Amaze is an all aluminium unit which makes it lightest in its segment.

Highly- engineered Chevrolet Enjoy is a full-fledged 7-seater Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) which will be available in India very soon. This car is popular in Chinese market as ‘Hong Guang’. Chevrolet Enjoy MPV which was on pedestal in Auto Expo, 2012 along with hatch Chevrolet Sail, is designed for those who require large space, comfort and style in car which can add pleasure to life. Ultra-stylish MPV is actually co-developed with Chinese partner SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). SAIC has 50 percent share in General Motors India and Chevrolet Enjoy will be coming from stables of Wuling Automobiles which is a Joint venture between GM and SAIC in China.  



 General Motors operates in India with subsidiary-Chevrolet. General Motors stands on top position in sales of 4-wheeler across the world and such a top player in car industry is bound to manufacture cars which are reliable. Chevrolet Motors has wide range of cars in India and all enjoy a decent market share which is increasing at regular basis. While it has Beat, Spark and Aveo U-VA in hatchback segment, Aveo, Optra Magnum and Cruze goes into sedan class. Apart from them, there are Chevrolet Captiva and Chevrolet Tavera Neo sitting in utility segment. With new addition of Enjoy MPV, company will have enough number of vehicles to rule their respective segments.

 Moreover, MPV (Multi-Purpose-Vehicle) segment is at present ruled by Toyota Innova in India and it takes most of the market share in its category. Every car manufacture is competing to beat its sales and in this attempt, Chevrolet Automotive is also not lagging. With Chevrolet Enjoy, company will directly attack Innova. Although, Chevrolet has  Tavera in MPV segment, it will bring new MPV which will be built more on grounds of style and class and would be an urban car. While Tavera Neo will sustain to serve semi-urban audience, new Enjoy will serve totally urban class.

 Chevrolet Enjoy Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) will meet needs of large Indian families having seven seats. B-segment MPV will suit all needs of a passenger car. Comfort will be ensured by flexi-seating in MPV. Lotus, a British auto giant, worked in tandem with GM Technical Center in India for more than one and a half year to refine chassis. Frame of this MPV is rigid as well as light weight because high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel is used in body and chassis of car. However, ground clearance seems to be less which can create a problem for new entry. Experienced designers have played with exteriors by introducing a crease in side to divide mass of body of MPV. This nicely manufactured car has a body on frame design just like Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova.

Just like Toyota Innova and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy will boast of its dual-row air conditioning. Safety was given a good weightage in manufacturing of this MPV. Chevrolet Enjoy will have loads of safety features such as dual air bags for driver and front passenger, seat belts with load limiters, ABS and tubeless tyres. However, rumours say that these goodies will be optional. 

Chevrolet Enjoy has been customised for local conditions and need of local users for economical, user-friendly personal transportation. New Chevrolet Enjoy will be powered by 1.4 litre petrol unit that will be able to produce 94.6 PS of power and 127 Nm. A powerful 1.3 litre Smart XSDE 4-cylinder diesel engine will follow this petrol one, however company will not launch this diesel version Enjoy before 2013. This multijet diesel engine will be co-manufactured by General Motors and Fiat. Engines would be manufactured at GM’s plant in Talegaon near Pune. As of now, foretelling is only for petrol engine. Now, everything will depend on right pricing of this car because if prices are high, this new car will really be a segment buster. That said sourcing car from China will give a huge cost advantage and even engine will be relatively cheap as it will be locally produced.   • Exteriors of Chevrolet Enjoy are marked by a raked bonnet, attractive nose, nicely shaped headlights continuing with chrome plated grille. Smiling grille will endorse a golden Chevrolet Bowtie on it. British car maker, Lotus worked day in and day out with GM Technical Center in India for more than one and a half year to design chassis. Fog lamps are more or less like cat-eyes and air dam is quite extensive in lower bumper. Smooth character lines on bonnet give a fluidic appearance to MPV. Tinted windshield adds to comfort of occupants as well as gives a high-end touch to overall look.
  • Side profile is not very interesting but complements this average looking Multi-Purpose-Vehicle. Chevrolet Enjoy is quite lengthy. It is recognizable from side with thick B and C pillars along with large pentagonal glass for 3rd row. However, unique feature that can be weighed above these bits is crease line that extends throughout the waist line to divide mass of body of MPV. 6-spoke alloy wheels are simple in appearance. Wheels arches are sharply carved out. 
  • Chevrolet Enjoy was displayed at Auto Expo and one can notice creases are visible at rear also. Horizontal character lines-on more prominent and one less prominent are present on otherwise simple and plain looking rear of Chevrolet Enjoy.   • All these parts add weight to car so Chevrolet Enjoy Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) rides a little bit firmer and is not as quick to turn as 1500 but it is still very competent chassis and at full load feels like it rides and handles at least as well as a loaded 1500. Were we regularly towing 6,000 pounds, or 5,000 with family and gear onboard, we would go for 2500 and its stouter running gear? We suspect Chevrolet Enjoy Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) will feel more stable than 1500 when pulling a 5,000-pound trailer.
  • Leaf spring rear-end on Chevrolet Enjoy Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) allows a significant increase in fuel capacity from 31.5 gallons on 1500 to 39.0 on 2500, meaning Chevrolet Enjoy Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) will travel farther between fill-ups of weaving your trailer through gas stations.
  • By default Chevrolet Enjoy Multi-Purpose-Vehicle (MPV) is set up for towing, but for larger loads, such as anything more than a twin-axle bass boat trailer, consider opting for trailer towing package (more engine oil and transmission fluid cooling), larger outside mirrors; and for integrated trailer brake controller as well. (Note that the controller may not work with electro-hydraulic trailer brakes as on some higher-end RVs; so consult your dealer.) Chevrolet Beat was first arrived in the year of 2010. It is a futuristic car that has been the most significant car for General Motors India. When launched Beat raised the bar for hatchbacks in India with catchy looks and futuristic interiors. This car has been designed by boffins at GM-Daewoo design studio in South Korea and end product is an absolute eye capturing. First thing that draws attention of buyers is oversized front and chunky grille sporting Chevrolet bow-tie. This gives Beat a dynamic stance. High-waistline and sloped roof with rails on top make Chevrolet Beat looks interesting from side as well. To give a 2-door appearance, rear door handles have been disguised in C pillars.

These look good but eat up rear window glass and can seem claustrophobic to some users. Interiors have a dash with twin console design and piano black trim looks wonderful. Superbike motivated instrument console looks great though a digital speedo and analogue tacho would have worked better than existing analogue speedo and digital tachometer. Dash is fit for a elite class car and interiors are engaging. This car has contoured seats which offer good side support but overall seat is not deep enough to offer good lumbar support and low seating position can be a problem during long journeys. Beat is available with two engine options, petrol and a diesel.

Petrol has mileage of 14-15 kmpl in city but one that takes cake is Beat diesel which has a praiseworthy mileage rate of 25 kmpl which is great and reduces running cost to the wide extent. It simply means price difference between petrol and diesel is nullified by economy of diesel. Diesel is also perfectly quick though in highway does feel strained but overall diesel variant is our choice due to mileage. Petrol variant is good but loses out on economy. Chevrolet Beat has best ride quality not just among three cars but in entire segment. Superior ride quality also gives Chevrolet Beat an advantage in overall handling. Car feels sharp around corners and is a delight to drive on congested city roads. Front suspension of Chevrolet Beat is of McPherson strut and rear suspension is of compound link type. Prices for Beat start at 3.8 lakhs to 5.7 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. Moreover, it is also available in LPG plus usual petrol and diesel. Though car has been available for a long time it still looks good and makes a great buy especially diesel.

Engine can surely give much above 17 kmpl in city traffic and may be 22+ on faster insterstate highways. Remember there are speed limiters which Chevrolet Motors has put in for first gear so that the engine is not spoilt a quick shift to second gear is almost all time needed. Torque of 150 Nm is able to keep Chevrolet Beat going and hence no big deal. If you are an efficiency freak, kitna-deta-hai types, then close your eyes and buy it.
  • Gear ratios: Well let us talk in plain English shall we? I could not push Chevrolet Beat beyond 20-30 kmph on first, say may be up to 60 kmph on second and so on up to 5th. I could not stretch it beyond 80-90kmph as it needed lots of acceleration though showroom staff claims it will easily go to higher speeds and remain there. Well it might, but we know from other forums on how highway or long drive performance of this car is. Personally, I feel Chevrolet Beat cannot stretch but if you are 80-100kmph types, then this should just be fine! Remember these speeds are ones where insane mileages are achieved albeit you might reach a bit late to destination if not any earlier!!

Conclusion : Chevrolet Beat is a cute car. Its proportions are welcome in a city like Bangalore. It has a peppy diesel engine with great suspension system, nice automatic climate control, much to my liking black interiors with blue instrument cluster and absolutely delightful steering. Its commendable fuel efficiency is going to impress all those who have been choking out more money for petrol so far. Engine itself is a bit noisy and car itself is only a four person vehicle strictly but not a major cause for concern still. Price though is a topic of debate as we have other options in price range with full safety features. 100000 km warranty or 3 yrs coverage with labour costs zero is a great initiative from Chevrolet Motors which shows their confidence on designing good cars which need minimal service in first place.

Chevrolet Beat is certainly a best car to own as it does only not deliver fantastic results on roads but also require low amount of money as running cost. This car is best in its segment so you do not need to worry about its performance and efficiency. Just buy and enjoy comfortable and remarkable driving every time you ride it.

Buying price plays a vital role in this segment and Chevrolet Beat Diesel wins this race round priced at Rs. 5.13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), Rs. 33,000 cheaper that similarly loaded base-variant of Figo.

Between ABS and airbag-equipped top end versions Beat at Rs 6.48 lakh is Rs 11,000 cheaper than Figo while also getting additional features like rear power windows, alloy wheels, climate control and front fog lamps.

Additionally, Beat offers 3 year/1,00,000km warranty while Figo makes do with 2 year/1,00,000km. And crucially Beat’s overall mileage beat Figo by 1.2kmpl. Thus if value for money is your overriding criteria we have a new segment leader in Beat diesel! But, we also must add that Figo is a better car overall. It does not look as good as Beat but has significantly more interior space, its ride and handling balance is among finest in segment and though on paper it is slower, in real world engine is nicer to use and feels faster and more tractable while being coupled to a hi-tech gearbox.

This test would have been a dead heat but we do not do dead heats at OVERDRIVE and Figo wins this by the tiniest of whiskers.

Making debut on Fiat Punto Evo, 1.4 MultiAir is the revolutionary head of a new family of engines fitted with MultiAir technology made and patented by FPT - Fiat Powertrain Technologies. Technology will be slowly rolled out across all Fiat engines.

Available in two different power options (105 PS and 135 PS), new engine represents a real departure point from current petrol engine scene. As compared with a traditional petrol engine with same cubic capacity, MultiAir engines give significant improvement in power and torque, as well as much lower fuel consumption and emissions.

Inside MultiAir is new electrohydraulic valve management system that enables low fuel consumption by regulating air directly via engine intake valves without using throttle and harmful emissions (via combustion control), as well as upgraded performance. As befits a flag-bearer for downsizing concept, MultiAir is a multi-faced technology that is easily applied to all petrol engines and may potentially be invented for diesel running engines.

135 PS 1.4 MultiAir Turbo guarantees Fiat Punto Evo all performance and temperament of a sporty, well-balanced car designed for customers who want good driving impression and mileage. Thanks to turbocharger, torque delivery of 135 PS engine is optimum under every condition and ensures exceptional acceleration and vigorous thrust at all revs, marking a new benchmark for petrol engines. Second-generation MultiJet

All Fiat Punto Evo diesel engines are fitted with next-gen MultiJet Common Rail injection system. This advanced solution can regulate high engine pressures (up to 1600 bar) without being tied to engine speed or quantity of fuel injected.

In 1.3 MultiJet Euro 5 versions, system uses innovative common rail injectors that, thanks to a balanced hydraulic servo-valve, are able to control the quantity of diesel injected into combustion chamber, with faster and more flexible sequence of injections than was earlier possible. By reducing the amount of time between injections, these injectors improve fuel introduction to chamber and therefore make diesel combustion process slower with positive effects for consumption, emissions, NVH and handling. In fact, new common rail injector on Euro 5 engines cuts consumption and CO2 on approved cycle by around 2%, while at the same time reducing emissions.

Second-generation MultiJets are hence the recent development in Common Rail injection system which, after JTD (1997) and MultiJet (2003) engines, gives Fiat yet another first in this field.

1.3 MultiJet is available in Euro 4 (75 and 90 PS) and Euro 5 (75 and 95 PS) versions, the latter coming with a particulate filter and Start&Stop as standard. Additionally, turbo is carried out either by a fixed geometry turbocharger (75 PS) or a variable geometry turbocharger (90 and 95 PS). Euro 5 versions have next-gen turbochargers that integrated with new 2nd generation MultiJet injection system ensure best possible turbo function at any engine operating level with torque delivery at low revs up to 25% higher than on Euro 4 versions.

Performance levels of 95 PS second-generation 1.3 MultiJet (Euro 5) are well worth a mention: top speed of 178 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 11.7 seconds, and consumption of 4.2 l/100 km and 110 g/km of CO2 emissions (in combined cycle). When combined with Dualogic gearbox, consumption falls to 4.1 l/100 km and emissions to 107 g/km.

Ultimately, Fiat Punto Evo range retains brilliant 120 PS 1.6 MultiJet Euro 5 with DPF from previous model. With this engine, Fiat- Punto Evo can touch top speed of 193 km/h (Sport version) and sprint from 0-100 km/h in 9.6 seconds. Excellent performance also comes with reduced consumption and emissions: in combined cycle, these figures are 4.5 l/100 km and 119 g/km of CO2 respectively.

Start&Stop system and Gear Shift Indicator

With respect for environment and mileage still in mind, new Fiat Punto Evo includes Start&Stop system. Coming as standard on all new Euro 5 petrol and diesel engines and from 2010 also on 120 PS 1.6 and 1.2 Euro 5, device temporarily switches off engine and restarts it in order to decrease fuel consumption and noise levels. In these situations, which are typical of heavy traffic in urban areas and when stopped at traffic lights, when control strategy permits, system automatically cuts out engine in order to cut fuel consumption and emissions by up to 15 percent for an urban route and 3.5 per cent over an NEDC-type cycle.

Furthermore, Gear Shift Indicator (GSI) linked to Start & Stop system is a kind of co-pilot that discreetly advises drivers when they need to shift gear, leading to a more fuel-efficient use of engine. For example, GSI may suggest shifting to a higher gear, by means of a signal on instrument panel, in order to allow engine to burn a leaner mixture, i.e. containing less fuel, or changing down a gear to make best use of available torque.

Blue&Me-TomTom

Interiors of this car are derived from the sibling Fiat Linea. Inside of Grande Punto is ergonomically designed with grey and black dual tone interiors in Emotion and Emotion Pack variants. Fiat Punto Evo has undergone several external changes to both front and rear, such as new bumper with improved technical and functional areas: for example, two radiator grilles combined in a single trapezium-shaped area with two side attachments containing direction indicators, while lower grille incorporates new circular fog lights with adaptive cornering function. Original side mouldings mix into new-look front and rear parts (3-door versions are improved by chrome-coloured line featuring car's logo).

Latest design has expanded car to a total length of 406 cm, meaning that it preserves winning characteristics of occupants’ comfort. Other external dimensions remain same, with width of 169 cm, height of 149 cm and wheelbase of 251 cm.

Lastly, there is a range of 13 colours, seven of which were not available for previous car: Grigio Intellettuale (Tech house Grey), Blu Temerario (Acid jazz Blue), Blu Illusionista (Brit pop Blue), Nero Rubacuori (Progressive Black), Verde Avventuriero (Unplugged Green), Bianco Radioso (Easy listening White) and Rosso Sfrenato (Tango Red).

Engine is highly improved with very low NVH levels even while idling. This engine feels a bit sluggish at low rpm however it comes on song after it crosses 3000rpm. Drive car above 3000 rpm and you will have no complaints about engine's performance.

Turbo lag on multijet engines is what most people have always had an issue with - be it Fiat Grande Punto, Linea, or even Tata's like Indigo Manza or Indica Vista which share this powerplant. Thanks to additional sweet-15 horses, 90 PS Grande Punto did feel a little better than 75 PS multijet and will no doubt have better in-gear acceleration thanks to extra torque. One would not find much difference over 75 PS Grande Punto in city traffic, but this hatch will definitely shine on faster highways where extra punch will kick in and making overtaking easier than before. Drive Fiat Punto Evo above 1800rpm and you will love the way the turbo spools and engine propels you away.

Fiat Motors has used 8-valve 1172 cc, 68 PS petrol engine which is same engine that powers Tata Indica Vista SAFIRE which we recently tested. Indica Vista even has same Fiat gearbox, however due to difference in final drive, we found Grande Punto is far more suitable for city driving. In quarter mile run, Grande Punto 1.2 took 21.4 seconds to hit 402m mark and reached 100kph in mere 19.4 seconds. No doubt, a better figure could be attained if Fiat Punto Evo was a tad lighter. It tips the scales at 1140kgs compared to Indica Vista Drivetech4 SAFIRE which is 1035kgs, making Grande Punto 1.2 Emotion a whole 105kgs heavier.
